OREANDA-NEWS. Russian corporation Gazprom sent to Ukrainian company Naftogaz an official proposal on extending natural gas transit contract.

The representatives of Gazprom also said that they were ready to conclude a new agreement for the year taking into account the forecast of demand in the European Union.

According to a proposal, mandatory condition are the following: refusal of both parties from all mutual claims in international arbitration and the termination of all legal proceedings; cancellation of the decision of the Anti-monopoly Committee of Ukraine on imposing a fine on Gazprom for “violation of economic competition”; rejection of Naftogaz’s petition of initiating an investigation by the European Commission against Gazprom.

In addition, the Russian side is waiting for the decision of Kiev regarding direct purchases from 2020.

The existing contract of Russia and Ukraine for the transit and supply of gas expires at the end of this year. Moscow, Kiev and the European Commission are holding trilateral consultations on the continuation of supplies, but there is still no result.

At the last meeting on October 27, Russian representatives proposed a package solution to gas problems. In particular, they demanded to nullify all claims and litigation.

Naftogaz was critical of this proposal. The executive director of the company Yuriy Vitrenko said that they are considering different schemes, but not nullifying.

The Ukrainian company estimates its claims against Gazprom at 22 billion US dollars: almost 3 billion according to the decision of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, 12 billion by a lawsuit, 7 billion fine imposed by the Anti-monopoly Committee of Ukraine.
