OREANDA-NEWS. Germany is going to discuss in the United Nations threats of the United States to impose sanctions connected to the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. This was announced on August 17 by the head of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy of the German Bundestag, Klaus Ernst.

The politician stressed that it is unacceptable for the USA or another country to dictate an energy supply strategy to a sovereign state, since this is “contrary to any reasonable relationship.” According to him, if the Americans carry out their threat to impose sanctions, it would be a violation of international law. “This is a violation to threaten the country’s sovereignty with the help of extraterritorial sanctions. After all, the fact is that these sanctions do not apply to the territory of the United States, they touch upon the European Union,” Ernst explained.

The German parliamentarian said that the next response measure that is currently being told over is a discussion of this problem at the level of the United Nations. Besides, Ernst did not rule out that Berlin will file claims with courts.
