OREANDA-NEWS. German authorities consider the extraterritorial sanctions of the United States against the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 unacceptable. Deputies of the Bundestag admit the possibility of introducing retaliatory measures against Washington.

It became known earlier that the United States intends to expand restrictions against Nord Stream 2. The new sanctions should concern the pipe-laying ships Akademik Chersky and Fortuna, with the help of which it is planned to complete the construction.

A number of deputies of German federal parliament called for a concrete answer for this decision.

“The current threat by the USA to impose extraterritorial sanctions cannot be considered as an act of friendship. This is an encroachment on the sovereignty of Germany and the European Union,” Klaus Ernst, head of the Bundestag Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy, deputy from the political party The Left, said. Among the possible retaliatory measures, he called the penalty tariffs for American natural gas.

Another German parliamentarian, Timon Gremmels, expressed confidence that US restrictions would not hinder the completion of construction of the gas pipeline, and Berlin would continue to provide full support for Nord Stream 2.
