OREANDA-NEWS. Germany could face unpredictable consequences if it does not respond to US sanctions against the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. This opinion was expressed by Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwezig, in an interview with the magazine WirtschaftsWoche.

According to the politician, allowing Washington to intervene will be the beginning of total control on the part of the United States. “Who can guarantee that the next step will not be prescribing what cars we should drive? This is completely unacceptable,” she said.

Schwezig stressed the importance of the construction of the gas pipeline taking into account Germany’s efforts to switch to renewable energy sources. In the next few years, the country intends to completely abandon the coal industry. The Minister-President claimed that region headed by her will not abandon Nord Stream 2, and called on Berlin and the European Union not to allow to be threatened.
