OREANDA-NEWS. Bundestag deputy from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Ralf Stegner said that there were no obstacles left to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. He stated this in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

The politician was asked if the FRG, at the insistent request of Ukraine, could suspend the project. Stegner clarified that in order to launch SP2, only a number of requirements must be met.

Nord Stream 2 is an economic project that may not be supported by everyone, but in Germany there are hints of reaching an agreement in this area. If the framework conditions do not change dramatically, and I do not see this in the near future, then the project will be launched,” Stegner said.

Stergner added that as part of the climate neutrality plans that Germany has, it certainly needs gas as an energy source for the transition period. That is why, as the deputy said, his party SPD also supported this project, the certification of which is currently being carried out by the Federal Network Agency of Germany.

Earlier, Tim Koehler, director of the German gas industry association Zukunft Gas, said that the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would take place during 2022.
