OREANDA-NEWS. A member of the German Bundestag Defense Committee, Alexander Noy, told RIA Novosti that the United States recognized the impossibility of stopping the construction of Nord Stream 2.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Wednesday that it was in the interests of the United States to suspend sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 AG project operator, its head and employees. Blinken's statement was circulated during his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Reykjavik.

"At the moment, this mechanism is protected from US sanctions, and Washington seems to have realized that it has no real leverage over this mechanism," Noah said.

According to the MP, the US concession on an important gas pipeline looks like a secret compromise between Berlin and Washington, but it remains to be seen what Germany can offer the US in return.

The politician believes that this looks "like a deal, the content of which is still subject to speculation. Keyword: construction of LNG terminals on the German North Sea coast for the import of shale gas from the United States."

Noah noted that Germany's resistance to US attempts to completely subjugate it was a welcome surprise, but it remains to be hoped that Berlin will be able to further protect the interests of Germany and Europe from US paternalism.

The deputy is sure that "this development of events is also a lesson for interaction with the imperialist, US-led West: firmness and consistency can pay off in the end."
