OREANDA-NEWS. The price of fuel in March this year in Germany reached a record for half a century. This was reported on the website of the Federal Statistical Bureau of the country.

Last month, Germans had to pay an average of 41.9% more for premium gasoline. Local residents paid 62.6% more for diesel fuel. The cost of light heating oil increased by 144%. The growth rate is compared to the same period last year.

The Bureau cited two reasons for the increase in motor fuel prices. This is the conduct of a special operation of Russia in Ukraine and the coronavirus pandemic.

The last time the fuel crisis in the country was in 1973-1974 due to a sharp rise in oil prices.

The day before, the Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten Internet portal published the results of a survey, according to which 84% of Germans are trying to save on products.

Due to high price increases, 22% of Germans are saving less money or have stopped saving it altogether. This is evidenced by a survey by the Ipsos Institute. The results were published by the Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten Internet portal.

Another 10% of respondents spend what they have already accumulated. The strongest inflation rates affected the age category from 25 to 34 years. These people not only stopped saving, but also take loans or pay off debts on existing loans.

Every third survey participant uses household appliances less often or watches TV less for reasons of economy. 44% of respondents decided to reduce the power of heaters. 84% of survey participants are trying to save on products. They buy goods with discounts or switch to products from more budget manufacturers.

The financial situation worsened in 43% of the Germans who took part in the study. Another 47% are worried about the future. Of these, 20 percent experience sleep problems due to anxiety.
