OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany declined to comment on reports that Berlin allegedly tried to conclude an agreement with Washington on the lifting sanctions against the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.

This was reported by RIA Novosti news agency with reference to the representative of the department. “I cannot tell you about the new state of affairs,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

Media reported about the attempt to hold negotiations last week. According to them, the German government has offered the United States a billion-dollar deal in exchange for Washington’s refusal of sanctions against the project Nord Stream 2, expressing readiness to finance the construction of two terminals in Germany for receiving American liquefied natural gas.

The gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Currently, about 160 kilometres of pipes remain to be laid. Due to US sanctions, construction was suspended.
