OREANDA-NEWS. The parliament of the German federal state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern by a majority of votes supported the initiative of the regional government to create a special institution named Foundation for Climate and Environment Protection. One of its goals will be to contribute to the continuation of the construction of the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.

The foundation will contribute to the achievement of Germany’s climatic goals, as well as support the completion of Nord Stream 2 to ensure reliable natural gas supplies, the operator of the construction project, company Nord Stream 2 AG, reported.

According to the newspaper Bild, the foundation will establish a commercial enterprise to complete the construction of the gas pipeline. German companies will not violate the US sanctions regime, since they will interact on the construction not directly, but through the foundation.

The government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on the territory of which the final point of the gas pipeline is located, intends to contribute 200 thousand euros to the authorized capital of the foundation, therefore, the consent of the regional parliament was required to create this entity.
