OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine is preparing a legal position for consultations with the United States and Germany on guarantees to Kiev after the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and possible compensation under an association agreement with the EU. This was stated by Olga Stefanishina, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of the country.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously supported the early start of regular trilateral consultations in the Ukraine-Germany-USA format on the preservation of Ukrainian transit after the launch of Nord Stream 2.

"We, of course, are preparing a legal position, which will have links to the relevant provisions of the Association Agreement on access to the European Union market, on possible compensatory moments that Ukraine can count on in accordance with the Association Agreement," Stefanishina said in an interview with the publication "Word and Deed" published Friday.

According to her, not only the element of consultations at the technical level is important for Kiev, but also the beginning of a global discussion at the level of leaders of European countries within the framework of European institutions.

“It is important that this discussion concerns not only security challenges for Ukraine, but also Europe as a whole, since the launch of Nord Stream 2 is an element of a hybrid war. And we want to remind many capitals how they have already become the object of gas blackmail from the Russian side, "the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Earlier, Germany and the United States issued a joint statement, which refers to measures to support Ukraine, European energy security and common goals to protect the climate.
