OREANDA-NEWS. During the talks between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, in Paris the gas issue was discussed, but the politicians still could not reach final agreements. This was reported to journalists by the Press Secretary for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov.

“So far, we cannot say that the parties managed to resolve the problem of the transit agreement and resolve the issue of claims in the Stockholm arbitration,” Peskov stated. “Miller (the head of Gazprom company Alexey Miller. – Ed.) and his colleague from the Ukrainian side were at the meeting, the approaches of the parties were presented,” the presidential spokesman added. According to him, the heads of state agreed to “continue communication.”

Earlier, Zelensky, commenting on the outcome of the negotiations, said that the issue of Gazprom’s paying compensation of 3 billion US dollars (taking into account the interest accumulated since the decision was made) in accordance with the decision of the Stockholm arbitration was resolved in principle. “It seems to me that we basically resolved the issue of the 3 billion dollars which we won. We are ready to take gas for it. This is a compromise we are ready to make,” Ukrainian leader said.

At the same time, according to Peskov, at the meeting the positions of the parties were compared and it was agreed that the leaders of gas companies would continue communication.

On December 10, Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk warned of the possibility of a new “gas war” between Kiev and Moscow.
