OREANDA-NEWS. Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the Russian President, called the threats of the United States to impose additional sanctions against gas pipelines Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream a rough pressure on European business.

“This is a continuation of negative trends, a continuation of a rough course of the introduction of various restrictions, a rough pressure on European business, which includes our companies,” the politician said. According to Peskov, Washington is engaged in unfair competition and is trying to force the Europeans “to buy more expensive gas on less favourable terms.”

The United States is threatening to impose retroactive sanctions against European creditors of Nord Stream 2. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded that companies Shell, Engie, Uniper, Wintershall and OMV leave the project “immediately,” otherwise they may face blocking of all assets in the USA and other unfavourable circumstances.
