OREANDA-NEWS. The US Senate and House of Representatives have reached an agreement on new sanctions against the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. This was reported by Bloomberg agency with reference to three sources familiar with the issue.

It is known that the restrictions will be included in the law on the defense budget for 2021, which should be adopted by the end of the current year. The sanctions will affect insurance and certification companies that have worked with Russian ships after construction of the pipeline was suspended.

The restrictions will be adopted in accordance with a new clause in US law proposed this year by several senators. Among other things, they oblige the American authorities to warn their allies before imposing sanctions. Bob Menendez, senator from New Jersey State, who heads the Democrats on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said that Washington wants to make it clear to the German side that their officials will not be subject to new sanctions.
