OREANDA-NEWS. The decision on the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 in connection with the situation around the Russian opposition politician Aleksey Navalny will not be German, but pan-European. According to the DPA agency, this was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a closed meeting of the faction of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria in the Bundestag. “No final decision has been made,” RIA Novosti information agency quoted Merkel.

The Chancellor believes that “it has been absolutely proven that Navalny was poisoned” and “a pan-European reaction is needed.” According to Merkel, it is not an “attack on Germany”, but Berlin should act as an EU member state.

Discussions around the future of Nord Stream 2 resumed after Germany, citing military doctors, reported on September 2 that Navalny had been poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group.
