Permanent Representative of Russia to the EU: the USA May Interfere with the Certification of Nord Stream 2
OREANDA-NEWS. The United States may make attempts to prevent the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline when construction is completed, but Moscow is ready for any development of events, Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov told RIA Novosti.
"The meaning of the US position is that it is impossible to stop construction. But after construction comes a period of certification, here they can put some other sticks in the wheels," Chizhov said on the sidelines of the SPIEF.
“We are ready for anything. And Europe itself needs Nord Stream 2 as much as we do. As you know, the participants in this project are not only our Gazprom, but also several large European energy companies. I'm not even talking about the position of the FRG government, "added the high-ranking diplomat.
Earlier, the White House stated that it would be difficult to prevent the construction of the gas pipeline, since it is practically completed. On May 20, the United States announced that it had abandoned the imposition of sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG, which is implementing the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, explaining that it is in their national interests. However, then the United States imposed sanctions against Russian organizations and ships under the Nord Stream 2 project. In particular, against the "Marine Rescue Service", "Mortransservice", the Samara Thermal Power Property Fund, "Koksokhimtrans". Sanctions were also imposed against 13 courts.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly called to stop mentioning Nord Stream 2 in the context of any politicization, since it is a commercial project that is beneficial to both Russia and the European Union. The Federal Republic of Germany supports the completion of the gas pipeline and rejects the unilateral extraterritorial sanctions of the United States.
