OREANDA-NEWS If the project of the gas pipeline through the Baltic sea will be implemented, Ukraine will seek compensation for the damage of $12 billion In international arbitration for its simple gas transportation system, said " Naftogaz»

Commercial Director of "Naftogaz" of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko in an interview with "channel Five" said that the company has prepared a plan to protect its interests in case of the launch of "Nord stream — 2".

According to this information, if the gas pipeline project is really implemented, Kiev will require the recovery of losses from Russia, which it will incur for the downtime of its gas transportation system. Ukraine estimates the damage to itself in $12 billion The corresponding claim the company already submitted to the international arbitration.

"Yes, we filed a lawsuit in arbitration — it's $12 billion. We have the legal capacity to do so. So now we can demand to revise the tariff", — said Vitrenko.

He noted that the European pricing rules allow to show the effect of the downtime of the Ukrainian infrastructure. The top Manager of the company did not specify what rules are in question, but added that it is not about the revision of the current contract with Russia, but "just about compensation for lost tariff revenue."

"Naftogaz" has already demanded from the Russian "Gazprom" compensation for non-compliance with the minimum volume of gas flow through the Ukrainian capacity. In February, the Stockholm arbitration refused to revise the tariff to Kiev and left unchanged the requirement of minimum transit. Nevertheless, the court has obliged "Gazprom" to pay in favor of "Naftogaz" of $4.63 billion for failure to supply gas according to the agreement on the transit. In view of the previous proceedings, the Russian company has to pay $ 2.56 billion.

"Gazprom" in mid-June achieved a suspension of the execution of the decision of the arbitrators. The court agreed that the case contained the necessary grounds. In addition, the court order deprives Naftogaz of the right to seize Gazprom's assets abroad.

The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine warned that the implementation of the "Nord stream — 2" will lead to a loss of 2.5-3% of GDP in 2019. In addition, the main fiscal and economic risks next year Kiev considers the activation of the conflict in the Donbass and the collapse of the national currency — the hryvnia.

Currently, the section of the future gas pipeline is already under construction in Finland. Two lines of the gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year should pass through the Baltic sea through the jurisdictions of Russia, Germany, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. All countries, except the Denmark, gave their permission to build. For Denmark, the managing company Nord Stream 2 AG has developed an alternative.
