OREANDA-NEWS. Poland is very disappointed with the US abandonment of sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This was stated by the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Some time ago, the White House stressed that it would be very difficult to prevent the building of the gas pipeline, because it is almost completed. On May 20, the United States reported that it had refrained from the imposition of restrictions against Nord Stream 2 AG, which is emboding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, explaining that the project is in their own national interests. However, then the United States imposed restrictions against Russian organizations and ships engaged in the Nord Stream 2 project.

“We in Poland are extremely disappointed with the recent change in the US position - especially as we have worked hand in hand with the US administration in the last couple of years to stop or slow down the development of Nord Stream 2. And only recently did the US administration change its mind on this occasion with false hopes that this will help to improve relations between the US and the EU. Well, Germany is not the EU. Germany is Germany, and it has its own interests, and it happened that its interests coincide and agree with the interests Russia," Moravetsky said in an interview with Newsweek.

Germany is on track to "clash with the transatlantic strategy" over its energy interests, as he said.

The Polish prime minister noted that the effort to stop Nord Stream 2 was "quite successful until recently." “So such a change was very disappointing for most of us, not only for Poland, but also for many European countries,” the prime minister added.
