OREANDA-NEWS. PERN, the Polish operator of the Druzhba oil pipeline, decided to technically prepare it for fuel transportation in the eastern direction.

“PERN decided that the eastern part of the Druzhba pipeline would be able to transport oil back, transporting raw materials from Plock to Adamovo,” the company’s statement says. It is explained that at present, transportation is carried out only in the opposite direction. PERN calls the goal of reverse supplies “increasing the flexibility of the company’s logistics network and improving Poland’s energy security.” The Polish company has already begun the search for a contractor for this project.

PERN clarified that today only the northern pipeline connecting Gdansk with Plock has the possibility of reverse transportation. “We were convinced how necessary such a solution is, during the so called chloride crisis, when contaminated oil came to the country from Russia,” the report reads.
