OREANDA-NEWS. Russia will continue to supply gas through the territory of Ukraine even after 2024, if it is profitable and there is corresponding demand. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin following talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“We are ready to continue gas supplies through Ukraine even after 2024. Naturally, if there is a demand for it from European importers and it will be profitable, and the gas transmission system itself will be in good technical condition,” he said.

The head of state also pointed out that Russia provides more than a third of Germany's needs for oil and gas. According to him, even during the period of high exchange prices, the Russian Federation continued deliveries to Germany at the cost of long-term contracts.

“In 2021, 50.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas was supplied to Germany. I note that even during the period of high exchange quotations for gas and a shortage of its offers in Europe, we continued to provide fuel supplies to German consumers on the basis of prices set by long-term contracts,” the President said.

As Putin noted, the German Federal Network Agency is currently certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is already fully operational. According to the head of state, SP-2 is an exclusively commercial project that does not carry political overtones.

The agreement between Moscow and Kiev, concluded for five years, provides for the transit in 2021-2024 of 40 billion cubic meters. m per year. Gazprom pays for the capacities regardless of the actual volumes of transportation through the territory of Ukraine.
