OREANDA-NEWS. Yuriy Vitrenko, the Executive Director of Ukrainian company Naftogaz, said to RIA Novosti information agency that during negotiations on gas transit with Alexey Miller, the head of Russian corporation Gazprom, preliminary agreements were reached.

Later, he noted on Facebook that the parties “agreed to continue to work out” options for extending gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, adding that it is too early to talk about any agreed variant. However, according to him, the parties adopt constructive positions.

A message from Gazprom to RBC news agency says that in addition to Miller and Vitrenko, representatives of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine and the national commission for regulation in the spheres of energy and utilities participated in the negotiations. “The parties have discussed issues of cooperation in the gas sector since 2020,” Gazprom reported.

Russian State Duma deputy Igor Ananskikh confirmed that there was a progress in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on gas transit. According to the politician, the reason for the changes in the negotiations was the fact that the Ukrainian side stopped politicizing the issue and started discussing it in the format of market relations. “Gazprom has been talking that they should speak about a contract, but not politics, for a long time. But, unfortunately, we had not been being heard for many years. Now, fortunately, the situation has moved, the possibility of a making contract is being discussed,” Ananskikh resumed.
