RIAC Program Director: Ukraine will Not Receive Compensation for Nord Stream 2
OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine should not wait for compensation after the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, neither the US nor the EU will provide them. This point of view was expressed to RIA Novosti by Ivan Timofeev, Program Director of the RIAC, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Theory of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kiev expects compensation after the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“I don’t think that any compensation is possible here, all the more it seems to me that the Americans or the EU will not present any compensation to the Ukrainians. It's another matter that the Ukrainians themselves will raise this issue. In America, there may be ideas about what is needed to force the EU to compensate Ukraine for something. Such conversations can be. Without any compensation, Ukraine is getting quite solid assistance. Maybe it will be an element of bargaining in order to expand this assistance in one way or another, but some kind of direct compensation for " Nord Stream 2 "Ukraine should not wait," the expert said.
Kiev is now trying to "raise the issue, raise shares" in order to get something, but they are unlikely to follow their wishes, said the program director of the RIAC.
