The Czech Republic Announced a Possible Cessation of Gas Supplies from Russia in the Coming Weeks
“The authorities of the Czech Republic have been working since February 24 on opportunities to abandon Russian energy sources. Residents of the Czech Republic will be provided with gas at home for a long time, even if supplies stop immediately,” Fiala said.
According to him, the state wants comfortable prices for energy, while private traders only need profit. Because of this, the country's authorities are exploring the possibility of controlling the network of power plants. However, this will not be possible in the coming winter.
He added that the increase in energy prices in the Czech Republic was due to the actions of Russia and the illiterate leadership of the previous Czech government, headed by Prime Minister Andrei Babis. Therefore, it will take two to five years for the country to achieve stability in the energy market.
Earlier Thursday, The Financial Times reported that the German government feared that Russia could stop sending its gas to the country as part of the annual maintenance of the Nord Stream pipeline.
