OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the German company Wintershall Dea, Mario Meren, said that the launch of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline (SP-2) will help to increase gas supplies to Europe and will help stabilize the difficult situation on the gas market.

«Of course, as soon as Nord Stream-2 is launched and Russian gas can flow in large quantities from Russian fields, this will stabilize the supply situation on the gas market», Meren stressed during a teleconference with investors.

Since the end of August, a significant increase in prices for natural gas has been recorded on the European spot market. Earlier, a historical maximum of $1,900 per thousand cubic meters was reached. Later, the price dropped to $600, but then showed growth again.

Earlier, journalist Christoph Herwartz called on the EU countries to purchase gas jointly. In his opinion, such a step would deprive Russia of the opportunity to dominate the market of this energy resource.
