A large majority (75%) of German citizens reject US sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, according to a poll presented Wednesday by the Eastern Committee of the German Economy (OA), a business association that brings together German companies in Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet space.

The poll was conducted from April 29 to May 10, 1001 people were interviewed, these are citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany over 18 years old.

Survey conducted by Forsa Sociological Institute commissioned by OA and Wintershall Dea. According to him, 75% reject additional US sanctions against Nord Stream 2, only 17% believe that the project should be stopped. At the same time, the construction of Nord Stream 2 is supported by members of the opposition parties Green (69%) and the Free Democratic Party (82%). Their leaders have repeatedly called in recent months for a moratorium on the construction of the gas pipeline.

At the same time, almost two-thirds (62%) of Germans supported the intensification of relations between the EU and Russia, it is primarily about cooperation in the economic and energy sector, which were "highly appreciated", commented on the results of the head of the Eastern Committee Oliver Hermes.
