OREANDA-NEWS. US President Donald Trump said that Washington was “protecting” Europe from Russia, trying to block the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and called on the EU to abandon Russian blue fuel in favor of American liquefied natural gas (LNG). This statement was made by the head of the White House on June 12 during a press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Washington. Trump recalled that the US is still considering the possibility of imposing sanctions on project participants. “We have something better - big LNG reserves. I think this is a real way out”, the Russian media quotes him.

According to the President of the United States, Germany, supporting the Nord Stream 2, puts itself in a dependent position on Russia and gives Moscow "billions and billions", while supposedly many European countries would like to buy American LNG.

Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to ensure reliable gas supplies to Europe. Most European countries support the project and participate in its implementation. Poland, the Baltic countries, Ukraine and the United States are against. Germany and other EU countries have repeatedly pointed out the significance of the project for Europe and the economic benefits from it, urging Washington not to politicize the construction of the gas pipeline.

Earlier it was reported that the possible introduction of US sanctions against the Swiss company Allseas and the Italian Saipem involved in laying Russian offshore pipelines will not affect the implementation of Nord Stream 2, according to analysts. US senators have prepared a bill involving restrictive measures against those involved in the construction of the pipeline.
