OREANDA-NEWS. Kiev is ready to negotiate on receiving compensation due to the loss of profit from gas transit after the launch of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with Die Welt.

“If we are offered negotiations on compensation, we will consider it. But this does not mean that we will definitely agree on what we will be offered, ”Kuleba said.

According to the minister, the United States' willingness to obtain such compensation for Ukraine has recently "significantly increased."

Kuleba added that the gas pipeline is primarily a threat to the security of Ukraine. Earlier, US President Joe Biden promised Ukraine maximum security, despite the launch of Nord Stream 2.

The Ukrainian authorities said the pipeline would cause serious damage to the country's economy and security. So, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that due to the loss of profits from gas transit, the country will receive at least $ 3 billion a year less. “We will have nothing to pay for the Ukrainian army,” the president warned.

As the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Nestor Shufrich said on the air of the Nash TV channel, the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline will be a serious blow to the Ukrainian economy.

“Today we can already say that two very sad events for Ukrainians have taken place. Regarding the Nord Stream 2 issue, this will affect every Ukrainian, unfortunately. This will affect everyone, because it will be a very serious blow to our economy, ”said the deputy.
