OREANDA-NEWS Unemployed residents of the city of Zhanaozen, Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, took to the street and declared distrust of the country's authorities. The participants recorded an appeal to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in which they demanded to solve the problem with employment.

The local "KazTAG" agency reported about the meeting of Zhanaozen residents. According to the publication, most of the people dispersed, but some remained in the area of the city hall.

In an appeal to Tokayev, the participants of the gathering stated that they express distrust of the authorities, because the list-employment scheme presented by the mayor's office in 2020 is being implemented unfairly.

"We are a group of unemployed residents of Zhanaozen! To this day, the issue of unemployment in Zhanaozen has not been resolved! <...> At the same time, we demand to employ all unemployed citizens in the oil and gas sector for a promising and stable job," the dissatisfied citizens said.

On February 1, the Government of Kazakhstan introduced a ban on salary increases for ministers and deputies, which will be in effect for five years.
