OREANDA-NEWSRepublican Party Senator Andy Barr has drafted a European energy security bill to introduce new sanctions against companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. This was reported on the website of the congressman.

“The energy security of our European partners is a strategic priority for the United States. The law will help stop the construction of the gas pipeline and ensure that Russia does not continue to undermine the energy security of our NATO allies in Europe”, said Barr. The document proposes to prohibit the entry into the United States of individuals who have anything to do with pipe-laying vessels involved in the construction of the Nord Stream-2. In July, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the imposition of sanctions on foreign companies that provide their specialized vessels for laying Nord Stream 2 pipes in the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project was a blow to energy security in Europe. The Ministry of Energy noted that after the gas pipeline was commissioned, the European Union would be at risk of interruptions in fuel supplies, and Russia would be able to stop gas transit through Ukraine.
