OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2016. Don't worry about leaving the basement to make a phone call.

Starting today, AT&T is bringing Wi-Fi calling to Android phones. The LG G4 is the first to get the service. If you have an AT&T G4, you should get a notification, inviting you to download the software update.

Check out CNET's guide to Wi-Fi calling if you need a refresher, but in short, it means you can make calls where cellular service is lacking as long as your phone is within range of a router. AT&T is behind Sprint and T-Mobile as far as which phones work with the service. Before today, only current iPhones could use it with AT&T.

So the expansion to the G4 is a step in the right direction, though it's odd that AT&T started there instead of the more current LG G5.
