OREANDA-NEWS In August 2018, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increased by 11%, according to the "Association of European Business" (AEB). 

In total, the volume of the Russian car market amounted to 147.3 thousand units, which is 14.6 thousand more than in August 2017. More than 1.1 million new cars have been sold in Russia since the beginning of the year. A total sales growth was 16.2%.

"Since the beginning of this year, the market has been recovering at a good pace, reaching 18% growth year-on-year by the end of July. In August, this trend continued, supported by the peak of spontaneous purchases associated with the recent weakening of the ruble,— said the Chairman of the AEB Jörg Schreiber.- In the coming months, the growth is likely to continue, as the planned increase in VAT from January 2019 in any case will provide a high level of demand until the end of this year." 

Sales of "AVTOVAZ" in August increased by 9% to 28.7 thousand cars, the Association said. In second place in terms of sales followed Kia (growth of 25% to18.9 thousand by August 2017), then Hyundai (+4% to 13.9 thousand), Renault (+3% to 11.5 thousand) and Toyota (+23% to 9.7 thousand). 

The best-selling model in August was the Lada Vesta sold 8,5 thousand cars. Second place in popularity took Kia Rio (7.8 thousand cars sold), and the third Lada Granta (almost 7 thousand cars sold).

The fourth most popular was Hyundai Creta-sold 5.3 thousand units. Closes the top five Volkswagen Polo (sold 5.2 thousand cars). Also in the top ten Renault (11 534 pcs), Toyota (9 748 units), Nissan (7 108 units), Skoda (6 741 pcs), natural GAS commercial vehicles (4 993 pcs) and Ford (4 035 pcs).
