OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union will ban the supply of cement, rubber, timber and chemicals from Russia, Reuters reports, citing a source. It is noted that vodka and caviar will also fall under the ban on imports from Russia.

The agency reports that restrictions may affect the export of semiconductors and equipment to the Russian Federation, including those intended for the production of liquefied natural gas.

According to a Reuters source, Russian businessmen, politicians and the military may also be included in the sanctions lists. It is noted that the European Union, along with other sanctions, intends to declare a ban on all transactions with VTB Bank, and three more Russian banks disconnected from the international payment system SWIFT.

Earlier, the United States imposed additional sanctions on Russia, banning the supply of luxury goods to the country, as a response to the Russian special operation in Ukraine. It also imposed a ban on the import of a number of textbook sectors of the Russian economy, including seafood, vodka and diamonds. US President Joe Biden then noted that these were not the last sanctions against Russia.

EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the EU intends on Tuesday, April 5, to agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia because of the situation around Ukraine. He noted that the ruble was able to withstand the sanctions strike of the West.
