OREANDA-NEWS Russia and Uzbekistan discuss  creation a joint enterprises for production of cotton yarn in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is spoken in the of Russian Tekstil’s message.

This question was discussed during the recent conference. Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade visits  the Head of Ivanovo region of Uzbekistan.

"In particular, it is planned to create joint ventures in the territory of Uzbekistan for the production of cotton yarn, which will be processed in Russia in the future. We are also interested in expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of light industry. Development strategy of this industry in the country can provide additional opportunities for the production of the Ivanovo region", — Viktor Evtukhov - the Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade is quoted in the message.

In April 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation formed a working group for the implementation of integration projects in the textile sector with the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Among the priorities of the working group is the preparation of a draft agreement between the governments of Russia and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the textile industry. The workgroup will identify priority areas of cooperation, a list of possible joint programs and projects, including the creation of a logistics hub in the Ivanovo region.

Traditionally, Russia and Uzbekistan successfully cooperate in the field of light industry. In 2016, Uzbekistan moved from the fifth to the third place among the main suppliers of cotton to Russia.

According to information on Russian Tekstil’s official site, in 2017 Russia imported goods from Uzbekistan for a total amount of 3.65 billion dollars (growth compared to 2016 year 33.9%). Of the total volume of Uzbek products in Russia in 2017 imported light industry goods worth almost $ 550 million (growth of 17.4%).
