Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi-Grand Lake and the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick, delivered good news to the City of Miramichi today with an announcement of a combined \\$1 million investment for the Miramichi Airport Commission for the development of a new multifunctional air services building.

MP Finnigan made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Nadeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).  Members of the Miramichi Airport Commission, the City of Miramichi and community leaders were also on hand to celebrate the good news.

The project includes demolishing the former passenger terminal and constructing a new two storey multifunctional air services building that will increase business opportunities. The new structure, which will be an estimated 10,000 square feet, will house flight operations, aircraft dispatching, meteorology observation, aviation fuel services, pilot reception and a rest area. Space will also be  leased to a variety of long-term tenants as part of a revenue stream to ensure sustainability.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, and the Government of New Brunswick, through the province’s strategic infrastructure initiative each contributed \\$500,000 to the project, while the City of Miramichi is providing \\$250,000 and the Miramichi Airport Commission is providing \\$362,000.
