OREANDA-NEWS. From 5 November 2016, Madeira, also known as the 'flower island' or the 'island of eternal spring', can be reached nonstop from Frankfurt in just over 4 hours. From this winter, Lufthansa will fly to Funchal (Madeira) every Saturday.

Its mild climate all year round means that the island, which is part of Portugal, is perfect for hiking in the winter season. Madeira's many protected areas are a true marvel for nature lovers, boasting numerous hiking trails through rare laurel forests with breathtaking mountain panoramas. Its many parks and gardens feature fascinating subtropical plants and a spectacular colorful carpet of flowers, which reaches its peak during the annual flower festival in spring.

Visitors to the island can also enjoy a leisurely stroll through the streets of the capital of Funchal and explore the charming historic districts and picturesque squares. Many churches and monasteries date from the 15th century – from the tiny Capela de São Vicente built into a block of basalt, to the artistic interior of the Sé Cathedral. And don't miss the opportunity to go on an exciting wicker toboggan ride. Flights to the new Lufthansa destination in the Atlantic will be carried out by an Airbus A321, which has more than 200 seats in Business and Economy Class. LH1170 leaves the Lufthansa hub Frankfurt at 09:40 and reaches Funchal at 12:55. The return flight leaves Funchal in the early afternoon at 14:30 and lands at Frankfurt Airport at 19:40. The departure and arrival times are ideal for connections to the entire Lufthansa route network. Return flights to Funchal start from 259 euros.
