OREANDA-NEWS. Representatives of the Lithuanian Government expressed their support for IRU’s Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport and interest in joining its projects in Eurasia, during meetings organised last week through IRU’s member association LINAVA.

Under-Secretary General, Igor Runov, who leads IRU’s work with the United Nations in New York, met with the Lithuanian Ministries of Transport and Communications, Foreign Affairs, as well as national road transport operators, to discuss the recent creation of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport, the UN General Assembly’s adoption of Resolutions on multimodal transport corridors and issues related to road safety.

New opportunities to develop Eurasian transport linkages, which will emerge in the context of China’s upcoming accession to the UN TIR Convention, and the activation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Agreement on international road transport facilitation, were also discussed.
