OREANDA-NEWS. The small section of ballast – the stone which sits beneath the rails – was washed away not far from Baildon station after the downpour which means no trains are able to run between Bradford Forster Square and Ilkley today.

Network Rail engineers plan to carry out the repairs throughout today and overnight, and hope to confirm later today when services will be able to resume.

Neil Henry, area director for Network Rail said: “Our team has been on site since yesterday evening and repairs to the landslip are already under way. We are working to get the line between Bradford Forster Square and Ilkey open as soon as possible and will provide a further update as soon as we know when repairs will be completed. I am sure when passengers see the photographs from the site they will understand why we cannot safely run trains today and I thank them for their patience while the work takes place.”

Richard Allan, commercial director at Northern commented: “To keep customers on the move, Northern has responded with a revised train plan and replacement bus services between Shipley and Guiseley. We are working with our colleagues at Network Rail to minimise disruption and return services to normal as soon as we can.”

A bus replacement service is in place for passengers between Shipley and Guiseley calling at Baildon until further notice.

Passengers traveling to Ilkley from Bradford Forster Square should travel by train to Shipley where a bus replacement will meet them for onward travel to Guiseley, where they will reconnect with train services.
