OREANDA-NEWS. Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.78 million passenger movements in May, a 6.7% year-on-year increase. Aircraft movements were 4.1% higher at 30,220 landings and takeoffs, while cargo shipments held steady at 157,510 tonnes, compared to the same period last year.

For the month, travel to and from North East Asia and Africa rose by more than 10%. Traffic also increased between Singapore and South East Asia, South West Pacific and the Middle East. All of Changi Airport’s top 10 country markets registered traffic growth, with double-digit increases for China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

As at 1 June 2016, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 330 cities in about 80 countries and territories worldwide. With more than 6,800 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 90 seconds.

New Services – A new city link to Amritsar, India, was established with Scoot’s new thrice-weekly services on 24 May. Garuda Indonesia started a new daily service to Medan on 14 June, while West Air increased its 3x weekly service to Chongqing to 5x weekly from 27 May. West Air launched its inaugural international flight to Singapore in February this year.

New Stores – In the transit areas, Harry’s Bar and Gucci made their debut in Terminal 2 and 3 respectively.

In the public areas, Pure Gold Jewellers and Avenue Kids both commenced operations in Terminal 2. This is Avenue Kids’ second full-fledged airport store following the opening of its first store in the Terminal 2 transit area last month.
