OREANDA-NEWSRussia is ready to restore direct air links with Georgia, but for this, the authorities in Tbilisi must take adequate steps. This was written on Thursday by the ex-speaker of the Georgian parliament, the leader of the "United Georgia - Democratic Movement" opposition party, Nino Burjanadze, on her Facebook page.

The fact that the Russian Federation is ready to restore air traffic, according to Burajanadze, is said by the decision taken on Wednesday by the Federal Air Transport Agency to issue S7 airline’s approval for flights from Moscow to Kutaisi (Imereti Territory). “I want to say once again that the Russian leadership is ready to resume flights. Yesterday’s decision on technical preparations for flights was another message. Last week I met in Moscow with representatives of both the legislative and executive branches.

On October 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, in an interview with the Russian media, said that Russia should understand Georgia’s position on normalizing bilateral relations before resuming flights. According to him, if in Moscow they see that the Georgian side wants to achieve normalization of relations, then they will begin to think about resuming flights.
