According to the Internet publication Idnes, the driver of the international express train Ex 351 Munich-Prague was a German citizen, an experienced railroad worker.

At the scene of the accident, there is only one railway track, which is alternately taken by oncoming trains, including international express trains.

General inspector of railways of the republic Jan Kuchera told reporters that the cause of the accident will be more accurately determined on Wednesday afternoon.

"Now we are studying the details of the accident. At the moment, neither the driver's error, nor the technical reason can be ruled out. We will know more in the afternoon of Wednesday," Kucera said, adding that the damage from the accident can be tentatively estimated at tens of millions of crowns.

As a result of the collision of trains, two people were killed - the drivers of both trains, four people were seriously injured, another 48 people were slightly injured. The search continues for another person.
