OREANDA-NEWS. Some systems working of the International Space Station (ISS) are seriously damaged and cannot be replaced, so after 2025 “an avalanche-like failure of numerous elements on board the ISS” is expected, Vladimir Solovyov, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) corresponding member, cosmonaut, First Deputy General Director of the Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, said. Energia is a leading enterprise in the Russian space industry, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities.

“There are already a number of elements that are seriously affected by damage and are going out of service. Many of them are not replaceable. After 2025, we predict an avalanche-like failure of numerous elements on board the ISS,” Solovyov warned during his speech at the RAS Council on Space.

The deputy head of Energia also suggested abandoning participation in the ISS and creating a national space station.
