OREANDA-NEWS Russia plans to limit the validity of a foreign driver's license to six months if the driver receives a residence permit or Russian citizenship, TASS reported referring to the draft amendments to the law on road safety.

The following provisions are foreseen: recognition as invalid of foreign driving licenses after six months from the date of receipt by their owner of residence permit or passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation.

The amendments also provide that the exchange of foreign national driver's licenses of categories C, D, CE and DE and subcategories C1E and D1E will be possible only after retraining. According to the agency's source, the document has already been approved at the government meeting and will be submitted to the State Duma for consideration.

Earlier, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the validity of the Russian driving licenses will be extended for three years. It will concern documents that will expire from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023.
