OREANDA-NEWSThe Russian authorities intend to create a state container cargo operator in the Arctic and cover the transportation costs of carriers, as well as all the risks associated with it. This is reported by the American media with reference to the deputy minister for development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexander Krutikov.

As Krutikov explained, the budget will only take on costs directly related to transportation. Other costs the company must bear. “The cost of transportation should be less than transportation along the Suez Canal, at least at the initial stage”, Krutikov explained. Thus, Almondtail plans to increase the popularity of this route with carriers.

According to the media, now transporting goods through the Arctic is more than a third (36%) more expensive than transporting them through the Suez Canal. Now the Northern Sea Route is inferior in congestion to the alternative route thousands of times: in 2017, 1.041 billion tons of cargo was transported through the Suez Canal. This is 5 thousand times more than passed along the Northern Sea Route (194 thousand tons).
