This was reported to the Russian media at the FSS Public Relations Center. "On October 1 and 2, in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation in the Sea of ​​Japan, the border control of the FSB of Russia in the Primorsky Territory prevented the poaching of 64 DPRK citizens in 4 fishing schooners", the intelligence service said. "Violators were delivered to the port of Nakhodka for further investigation and adoption of a procedural decision", the FSS added.

In total, about six tons of illegally obtained squid, more than 600 kg of crab, three sharks were discovered. Seafood and fishing gear were seized from poachers. To detain one of the schooners, the border guards had to use weapons, as a result five citizens of the DPRK were injured, and they received medical assistance. “In connection with the non-compliance with the legal requirements of the border guards, a screw-steering group was used to stop one of the schooners. As a result, the engine compartment was ignited on the intruder vessel”, the FSS said. The vessel was detained, its crew of 21 DPRK citizens was evacuated, the fire was extinguished.

As previously reported, on September 17, Russian border guards patrolled around the Quito-Yamato Bank in the Sea of ​​Japan, a traditional fishing site, found two North Korean schooners and 11 motorbots engaged in poaching in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation. The crew of one of the boats carried out an armed attack on the border guards, as a result of which four border guards were injured.

On September 20, the schooners together with the crews were delivered to the port of Nakhodka. A total of 161 citizens of the DPRK were detained, among them there are victims and one dead. A criminal case under Art. 317 of the Russian Criminal Code.
