OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and Gazprom have been instructed to create a working group to prepare a feasibility study for the gas pipeline to supply gas via the western route through Mongolia to China. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak reported that Russia and Mongolia will soon create a working group to analyze the prospects for creating a gas pipeline through Mongolia to China and determine its parameters. Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller on September 9 instructed him to consider using the resources of the Irkutsk Region, Krasnoyarsk Territory, and also Yamal to supply gas via the western route to China via Mongolia.

Vitaly Markelov, Gazprom’s deputy chairman of the board, later said that in 2020-2021 Gazprom would intensify exploration work and update its resource base in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk gas production centers.
