OREANDA-NEWSAt least 18 people were killed in the crash of an An-12 military transport plane in West Darfur on Thursday. This was announced by a representative of the armed forces, Brigadier General Amer Mohammed al-Hassan, the Sudanese information portal TAJ News reports.

According to him, "there were 18 people on board: seven members of the military crew, including four officers, as well as eight civilians, including four children, and three judges". Everyone died.

The plane bound for Khartoum crashed five minutes after it took off from El Geneina Airport, the administrative center of the West Darfur region, a few kilometers from the runway. He brought medicine and food to Darfur and made a return flight to the Sudanese capital. The Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General of the country were supposed to fly on the same side, but at the last moment they refused to fly due to working circumstances. An investigation into the circumstances of the crash began.
