OREANDA-NEWS. The Western Court of Appeal in Denmark decided to lift the arrest from the Russian research vessel «Akademik Ioffe», it was reported on Tuesday, December 7. The Russian Ministry of Education and Science said they were waiting for a document confirming the court's decision and the ship's return to Russia.

The Danish authorities detained the Russian research vessel «Akademik Ioffe» on November 1. The arrest of the vessel was motivated by an interim measure on the claim of a third party. The lawsuit was filed by the Canadian company One Ocean Expeditions Ltd, which organizes cruises in the North Atlantic Ocean and leased a Russian research vessel in 2018.

The Russian Embassy in Denmark confirmed that the arrest from the ship has been lifted and the crew of the «Akademik Ioffe» has already been notified about this. «During the court session, it was emphasized that the Russian vessel is state-owned and was on the way to conduct an oceanographic scientific expedition, which is classified as a non-commercial purpose», said Konstantin Akimenko, a spokesman for the Russian Embassy in Denmark.

«Academician Ioffe» and «Academician Sergey Vavilov» belong to the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Russian vessels were chartered by the Cyprus company Terragelida Ship Management, a subsidiary of the Institute of Oceanology.
