According to the publication, the accident occurred in a canal connecting the two main harbors of Phuket with a bay on the eastern side of the island, at about 8:15. As a result of the accident, 21 Russian tourists were sent to Phuket medical facilities with injuries of varying severity.

In early February, a Russian tourist drowned in Phuket while swimming near Patong Beach. According to police, the 34-year-old woman was on the beach with her friend, with whom they swam in turns, so that the second could look after things.
