OREANDA-NEWS. The development of the Russian satellite constellation of new generation named Gonets has begun.

This was announced by Pavel Cherenkov, general director of the company Satellite System Gonets, a part of Roskosmos State Corporation for Space Activities. He explained that in the new system the number of satellites will be much larger, therefore, putting the entire constellation into orbit with its subsequent planned replenishment will be required.

At the initial stage, seven devices will be sent into orbit per one launch, then their number will be two or three to maintain the group. Launches will be made from the Vostochny Cosmodrome, Cherenkov added.

The head of Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin in June 2019 announced that the new satellite system will be focused on providing Internet of things.
