OREANDA-NEWS. The first buses running on hydrogen fuel will appear in the streets of Russian cities in 2024. This was reported to RIA Novosti in the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The ministry said the following: "As part of the execution of the order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, it is planned to create a prototype city bus on hydrogen fuel cells by the end of 2021 and start trial operation of this kind of buses in 2024."

At the same time, the mass introduction of transport on hydrogen is possible only with the deployment of the appropriate refueling infrastructure, as the Ministry of Industry and Trade specified.

"We consider the creation of vehicles on hydrogen fuel cells to be a very promising direction in the sphere of public transport, taking into account the climatic and other peculiarities of our country," the representatives of the ministry said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin set a certain task to create in the country a city bus running on hydrogen fuel by 2023. Kamaz has already announced the start of relevant developments; the automaker is going to create a hydrogen bus this year and begin testing it.
