OREANDA-NEWS. According to RIA Novosti, the press secretary of the Drom.ru car sales portal, Elizaveta Olofinskaya, based on the results of the research conducted by the company, said that about half of Russians believe that cars worth over 5 million rubles should be taxed on luxury.

This portal conducted an all-Russian poll from November 16 to 23 on the topic "Which cars should be taxed on luxury?", which was attended by over 18 thousand people from different regions of Russia, mostly car owners. In total, respondents from 38 Russian regions took part in the survey.

According to the poll results, the majority of Russians, that is, 31%, chose the option "5 million rubles", 17% voted for "10 million". Thus, 48% of those polled want to raise the threshold for "luxury" cars. At the same time, 21% of motorists believe that such a tax should not exist at all.

According to her, 17% of respondents agree with the existing level of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of 3 million rubles. For example, in the Voronezh region, 12.3% of respondents spoke out in favor of raising the tax for cars cheaper than 3 million rubles, which indicates its popularity, which has doubled.

Increasing coefficients for transport tax for owners of expensive cars - the so-called luxury tax - have been applied in the Russian Federation since 2014. The Ministry of Industry and Trade annually updates the list of vehicles subject to increased taxation, the document is published on the ministry's website. The basic tax rate in each region is different, and the multiplying coefficient depends on the average cost and year of manufacture of the car.
